Driving Information

Senior Driving & Parking Guidelines 

To ensure the safety of all students and staff, seniors who wish to drive to school must meet the following requirements and adhere to all guidelines outlined below.

Senior Driving Forms

    • Students must attend the Nassau County District Attorney’s Choices and Consequences Driving Meeting.
    • The 2025–2026 Senior Driving Guidelines Form must be read, signed, and dated by both the student and parent/guardian.
    • Students must be at least 17 years old and possess a valid New York State Class D Driver’s License.
      • A DJ (junior) license is not accepted under NYS law.
  • To obtain a parking tag, students must bring the following to Dr. Finlay’s office:

    • Original or copy of the Class D driver’s license
    • Vehicle registration(s) for the car(s) being driven to school
    • Completed and signed Senior Driving Guidelines Form

     

    • Security Guards are stationed throughout campus. All instructions must be followed for safety and order.
    • School Administrators reserve the right to search any student vehicle on campus if there is reasonable suspicion of unsafe or prohibited materials.
    • Parents/Guardians are encouraged to use discretion when allowing students to drive in inclement weather, especially snow.
  • Students are expected to follow all parking guidelines and assigned Day 1/Day 2 rotation. Violations may result in suspension or revocation of driving privileges.

    • Parking tags may not be exchanged under any circumstances
    • Vehicles must be locked, with windows closed
    • Lost driving days due to school closures cannot be made up
    • If a student loses their license or is placed on driving probation, Dr. Finlay must be notified immediately
    • Seniors may only park in the designated senior parking lot
    • Enter and exit campus via the Route 106 entrance
    • Speed limit: 15 mph at all times
    • No parking in staff lots before 4:15 p.m.
    • No parking in non-designated areas (violations may result in loss of privileges)
    • Jericho High School is a closed campus
      • Students may not leave without a pass from the attendance office or assistant principal
      • Seniors without an 11th-period class may leave after 10th period
    • Underclass students are not permitted in senior vehicles on campus, except during arrival and dismissal
    • Students may only drive vehicles registered under their own permit
    • Car radios must be kept at a low volume
    • Students may only pick up or drop off passengers in the senior lot
    • Any accident on school grounds involving a vehicle, person, or property must be reported immediately to Nassau Police, Security &  Dr. Finlay’s office
    • Students with unexcused absences may risk losing driving privileges
  • The Nassau County Police Department may issue tickets at any time for:

    • Traffic violations
    • Illegal parking
